Belated congratulations from Jeff and myself! That's very exciting! Sorry to hear the final design on their site isn't quite what you'd like it to be (with the font and all), but still, something to be very proud of! We'll have to order ourselves some copies. One can never have too many copies of Susan Kay

Thanks Rebecca, MissDaae. The script font is a good idea, I'd probably have gone with one slightly less elaborate - and most probably switched Susan Kay's name to a classy serif font at the very least.
But them's the breaks with the contest's rules. Once it was chosen, I had no say in any alterations they would make to it. Still nice to know that it's being used, though. R. "Pain is my power."

A friend emailed me yesterday to let me know that she got her copy of the Kay hardcover, so I guess it's finally shipping after some unfortunate delays.

I certainly hope this isn't what they ultimately did with the design:

I love that cover, but I'm still going to issue it from the library whenever I want to read it. It's too expensive for a book I *can* get from the library... there's *plenty* of Phantom ones that I can't!
But I couldn't see... What's the difference between the two versions you linked to? They look exactly the same to me: just photographed on slightly different angles! |

Re: oh crap | ||

The Amazon.com image is much darker than the actual illustration. the Llumina press image (both of which are actually doctored versions of the front cover, not photos of the actual book) is much more accurate in terms of color.
And I undertsand completely about your reluctance to purchase the book when you have the option of borrowing it from the library. As a small publishing company, Llumina's prices can be a bit steep for some people. R. "Pain is my power."
